Around Scotland in 20 Photographs

Welcome to a pictorial trip around Scotland taking in islands, Highlands, cities, the history, the modern day culture with a few heroes, old and new thrown in.

Let's start with a very famous view, if you open any Scottish guidebook you will find a picture of this castle - it's Eilean Donan Castle, in the Highlands. This castle might also look familiar if you have seen the film Highlander.

Another picture likely to feature in the guidebooks is the Glenfinnan Monument.

This is the lighthouse at Neist Point on the most westerly edge of Skye. Supplies are winched down to the lighthouse in a basket. I visited this lighthouse on a wild October day.

A Scottish thistle now taken at Dunvegan Castle, not far from this lighthouse.

Back onto the mainland and seals at the nearby picture perfect village of Plockton. This picture was taken on Calum's Seal tour "If you don't see seals you get a full refund".

Down to the Ardnamurchan Peninsula and some Highland cattle

Further south and to Oban where you can catch a ferry and go Island Hopping.

Down the West Coast to another island, the one that is described as Scotland in miniature, the Isle of Arran. This is Lochranza on its north coast.

Back on the mainland in Ayrshire it's Culzean Castle.

and not very far away is Turnberry the famous hotel and golf resort.

Heading west to the city of Glasgow and an institution - The Barras market.

another Glasgow legend is the Barrowlands Ballroom and music venue.

Nothing beats the atmosphere and tension of an Old Firm Game.

Whilst over at Scotland's most visited tourist attraction The Kelvingrove Art Gallery Elvis lives on.

Heading north out of the city to the beautiful Loch Lomond. You could actually make the Glasgow to Loch Lomond journey on the Loch Lomond Sea Plane. It's the ultimate way to travel.

Also in Loch Lomond a picture of Luss Parish Church on the west side of the Loch.

Into Perthshire for one of the UK's best festivals T in the Park, the Friday is fancy dress day.

Heading east now to the coast and Crail Church in the East Neuk of Fife.

In the capital city Greyfriars Bobby and a beautiful story of a dog faithful to the end to its master.

Whilst finally, The Forth Rail Bridge is being painted, again!

That's the tour over and we missed The Borders and North East!
Hope you enjoyed the pictures of this beautiful country.
